Methodology

  • Arc hand selects the logs that will be cut to meet the requirements of each specific customer project. These logs are custom milled to specification to create a range of products from large free of heart center (FOHC) timbers to tight clear vertical grain (CVG) finish paneling.
  • For each project, Arc mills and ships a few extra pieces of the more common lumber sizes to ensure obtaining a perfect kiln dried product.
  • Arc recommends FOHC timbers to avoid the twisting and cupping that can sometimes occur with box hearts.
  • Arc adds on at least 3/8" for every 12" in both thickness and width to allow for the 3 - 5% shrinkage that occurs in drying timbers.
  • If timbers are to be resawn or
Strict quality control is maintained throughout the entire process.
surfaced, Arc over sizes the rough/green timbers 1''- 2'' in both thickness and width to account for any twisting or cupping that could possibly occur during the drying process.
  • Once the timbers are removed from the RFV Kiln, they are resawn for straightness and uniformity.
  • After the timbers are trued up, they are run through the planer or bandsaw for final surfacing to the specified S4S or Resawn dimensions.
  • Timbers are then specialty wrapped and protected to avoid any damage during shipment.
  • All shipments are tarped to ensure additional protection from the elements in route to the customer project site for final delivery.
