Hewn Barn: Refined to produce a timeless artifact that is rich in patina, texture, and character

Prior to the advent of the steam engine, timber frame structures were built utilizing local trees, both hard wood and softwood species, that were felled and hand shaped to unique specifications using a laborious broad adze hewn method that required a tremendous amount of craftsmanship, hard-work, and strength. The hewn timbers were subsequently used to build the framework for a variety of structures with a combination of mortise and tenon joinery and wooden dowel pegs. Over time these historic barns, mills, and elevator grain shafts were abandoned, damaged, or replaced.
